NY Baseball Prediction Markets: Yankees, Mets and October 2026
With five weeks left in the regular season, the Yankees are pricing like an October team and the Mets are pricing like next year. Here's how New Yorkers trade both.
Yes — New Yorkers can legally trade baseball outcome contracts on Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated exchange, and on Polymarket through its iPhone app. As of August 24, 2026 the Yankees sit 74-56 and hold the top AL Wild Card by 9.5 games; the Mets are 59-72 and 12 games out of the last NL spot.

There are roughly five weeks of regular season left, and for once the two New York baseball markets are telling completely different stories. One is a live October contract. The other is already a 2027 conversation. That split is the whole reason baseball is interesting to trade from here.
- Yankees
- 74-56 (.569) — first AL Wild Card, 9.5 games clear of the cut, 4 games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East. Run differential +100.
- Mets

- Best record
- Milwaukee at 81-50, with the Dodgers a game back at 80-51.

What a baseball prediction market actually is
A prediction market contract on a baseball outcome is a yes/no claim that settles at $1 if it happens and $0 if it doesn't. "Yankees to win the World Series" trading at 9¢ means the market is collectively pricing about a 9% chance. You buy the yes side if you think it's worth more than 9¢, or the no side if you think it's worth less. There is no vig baked into a price the way a sportsbook builds it into a moneyline — the exchange takes a trading fee instead, and the two sides of the contract always sum to a dollar.
That structural difference matters more in baseball than in almost any other sport, because baseball futures live for six months. You are not locked in until settlement. If you bought Yankees pennant contracts in April at 22¢ and they're 31¢ today, you can sell into that move. A futures ticket at a sportsbook gives you no such exit.
Where New Yorkers can legally trade it
Two venues matter here, and they are not equivalent.
- —[Kalshi](=AFF:kalshi) — a CFTC-regulated federal exchange, open to New York residents. This is the cleanest path for division, pennant, and World Series contracts. New traders get $10 with code NYPREDICTS. Open a Kalshi account.
- —[Polymarket](=AFF:polymarket) — available to New Yorkers through its iPhone app, with deeper crypto-native liquidity on the headline World Series board. Code NYPREDICTS carries a $50 deposit boost. Open Polymarket.
- —[OG](=AFF:og) — crypto-native event markets across 42 states. New York is not one of them, so this is a travel-only option for New Yorkers. See the OG offer.
Everything else New Yorkers hear about — the pick'em and player-prop apps — is a different product category with a different legal footing. Read our full breakdown of what's legal in New York before you fund anything.
The four baseball markets worth your attention
Baseball boards get cluttered fast. Four contract types carry almost all the volume and almost all the useful information:
- —World Series winner — the deepest and slowest-moving board. Prices barely react to a single game and move hard on injuries to a rotation.
- —League pennant — AL or NL champion. Roughly double the World Series price for a comparable team, and often the better value if you think a team's path is easier than its overall quality.
- —Division winner — the sharpest short-horizon market in September. A four-game deficit with 30 to play is a real number, and the contract prices it honestly.
- —Make the playoffs — the binary that decides whether a season means anything. For teams on the bubble this is the most volatile line on the board.
The Yankees and Mets are opposite trades right now
The Yankees are the rarer thing in a prediction market: a team whose participation question is basically settled and whose seeding question is wide open. At 74-56 with a +100 run differential, the playoff-appearance contract offers almost nothing — the market has already paid for it. The AL East contract, with four games separating them from Tampa Bay, is where the actual disagreement lives, and division seeding is what determines whether October starts with a bye or a coin-flip three-game series.
The Mets are the opposite. Twelve games back of a Wild Card with five weeks left, the postseason contract is close to a lottery ticket, and the honest read is that the market has moved on. What's still tradeable in Queens is next season's shape — offseason and 2027 futures, where a September that reveals something about the young rotation moves a price no one is watching yet.
"One New York team is trading its seeding. The other is trading its next front-office decision."
How to read a price without fooling yourself
Three habits separate people who do this well from people who donate:
- —Convert to probability first. 31¢ is 31%, not "cheap." Ask whether you'd take that side a hundred times.
- —Respect the field. In a 12-team bracket, even the best team on the board rarely clears 20% for the title. A 9¢ Yankees World Series contract is not an insult to the Bronx — it's what a short playoff series does to any favorite.
- —Watch the rotation, not the record. Baseball futures move on starting pitching health more than on winning streaks. A rotation injury repricies a pennant contract faster than a six-game skid does.
Fees, taxes and the boring parts
Kalshi charges a variable per-contract trading fee — check its official fee schedule before you size a position, because on a contract priced near 50¢ the fee is a meaningful share of your edge. Polymarket applies a small taker fee on most markets. Neither venue charges a spread the way a book does, but neither is free. And the US tax treatment of event contracts is its own conversation; keep your records.
If you're new to all of this, start with the mechanics: what prediction markets are and how New Yorkers actually use them.
