Yankees Playoff Odds: What the Markets Price for October 2026
At 74-56 the Yankees have effectively bought their ticket. The tradeable question is what seed they walk in with — and that's a very different bet.
The Yankees are 74-56 as of August 24, 2026 — first AL Wild Card by 9.5 games, four games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East, with a +100 run differential. Their playoff-appearance contract is nearly priced out; the AL East and pennant boards are where the money still moves. New Yorkers can trade both on Kalshi.

Every year the Bronx conversation is about whether the Yankees are good. This year the market has already answered that and moved on to a harder question: what does October look like from the seed they end up with?
- Record
- 74-56 (.569) through August 24, 2026.
- AL East
- 4 games behind Tampa Bay (78-53).
- Wild Card
- First AL Wild Card, 9.5 games clear of the cut line.
- Run differential
- +100 — better than their record, which usually means the record understates them.
The playoff contract is nearly dead money
A 9.5-game Wild Card cushion with roughly 30 games to play is not a margin that evaporates. Contracts on "Yankees make the playoffs" trade in the low nineties in this situation, which means you are risking about 90¢ to make about 10¢ over five weeks. That's not a trade; that's a savings account with tail risk. The useful boards are elsewhere.
The AL East is the real disagreement
Four games back of Tampa Bay with a month left is genuinely uncertain, and that uncertainty is worth more than the standings suggest. Under the current format the top two division winners in each league get a bye straight to the Division Series. The other four teams play a best-of-three Wild Card round where the higher seed hosts all three games — a format that has repeatedly eaten better teams.
So the AL East contract isn't really about a banner. It's a bet on skipping the most random three days of the postseason. That's why a division price and a pennant price move together in September, and why traders who only watch the World Series board miss the actual signal.
What the run differential is telling you
A +100 differential at 74-56 is a team playing slightly below its underlying quality — the Pythagorean estimate has them a couple of wins better than their actual record. In market terms, that's the argument for the pennant contract being cheap relative to the division contract: the run prevention that produced +100 travels better into a short series than a hot lineup does.
"The Yankees' record is the story the city tells. The run differential is the story the market prices."
The three contracts worth watching in September
- —AL East winner — highest volatility of the three. A single head-to-head series against Tampa Bay can move it ten points.
- —AL pennant — the best structural expression of "this rotation is built for October." Typically prices around twice the World Series number.
- —World Series winner — slow, deep, and the most sentiment-driven board. New York money reliably overpays here in September.
All three are listed as event contracts on Kalshi, which is CFTC-regulated and open to New York residents — new traders get $10 with code NYPREDICTS. Polymarket carries the headline World Series board with deeper liquidity, available to New Yorkers on iPhone with a $50 deposit boost on code NYPREDICTS.
How to actually trade it from the Bronx
- —Price the seed, not the team. If you think the bye matters, buy the division contract instead of the pennant one — you get the same thesis at a shorter horizon.
- —Sell into fan flow. Yankees contracts get bid up during winning streaks by people who aren't pricing anything. That's your exit, not your entry.
- —Watch the rotation reports, not the box scores. A starter landing on the IL in mid-September repricies October faster than any losing streak.
- —Size for the fee. On a contract near 50¢, [Kalshi](=AFF:kalshi)'s per-contract trading fee is a real share of your expected edge — check the current fee schedule before you scale up.
